The Disappearance of Alyssa McLemore
21 year old Alyssa McLemore was last seen in Kent, Washington on April 9, 2009. She disappeared after calling 911 and asking for help before her phone went dead.
Background
At the time of her disappearance, Alyssa was living with her grandmother and mother in Kent, Washington. She is a member of the Aleut tribe.
She had a three year old daughter, who was staying with her father, Alyssa’s boyfriend. Loved ones say she would have never abandoned her child.
Alyssa’s mother was suffering from Scleroderma in 2009, and died three days after Alyssa went missing.
Disappearance
On April 9, 2009, Alyssa McLemore was last seen in Kent, Washington where she lived with her mother and grandmother.
At 6:30 pm she spoke to her grandmother on the phone, who told Alyssa that her mother wasn’t doing well and that she should come home. Alyssa agreed; she was about six miles away from home, and said she was going to get on a bus and head back.
Alyssa never made it back home.
On the night of April 10, 2009, Alyssa’s family received a knock at the door from police officers, asking if Alyssa was OK. Alyssa’s phone had made a call to 911 at 9:15 pm that evening, with a young woman on the line asking for help before the phone went dead.
The dispatcher says they heard a male voice in the background telling the caller to “come here,” and saying something like “I’ll kill you.”
Her Blackberry phone did not have GPS, so the location of the call could not be determined. The caller has never officially been identified, and Alyssa’s phone went dead a few days later.
Alyssa’s family was told they had to wait to report her missing, since she was an adult and could leave on her own. They officially reported missing to the Kent Police Department on April 13, 2009.
Investigation
Citing the active investigation, authorities have not let Alyssa’s family listen to the 911 call.
On the day of her disappearance, a witness reported seeing Alyssa in the area of 30th Avenue South and Kent-Des Moines Road, and saw a green 1990s pickup truck, possibly with Oregon plates, approach Alyssa.
The area is known for sex workers, and court records show Alyssa had been arrested four times for prostitution and prostitution-related offenses between September 2008 and February 2009.
A second witness described the man in the green truck as being a white male in his 50’s or 60’s, about 5’8 tall and weighing 175-185 pounds. The second witness also said the man appeared to be someone Alyssa knew, though he has never been identified.
Appearance
Native American/Black female with black hair and brown eyes. Alyssa stands 5’1-5’2 tall and weighs 130 pounds. She has a scar on her abdomen.
